VHQ + ICE = NICE
Hello Dave,
In April 2024, a severe thunderstorm with 80 mph winds destroyed a competitor's hexbeam on my tower. Having experienced excellent results with the hexbeam, I decided to replace it with another. I considered the competitor's hexbeam as a replacement, but with the ice cords and 6-meter band added, the cost was around $1000. Your antenna was only a few hundred more, and the construction quality vastly superior. So I bought the VHQ hexbeam.
Six days ago, an EF-1/ EF-2 tornado came through our neighborhood. When I heard that the storm was coming, I quickly lowered the antenna on my crank up tower to approximately 33 ft. The tornado uprooted trees and snapped utility poles. My next-door neighbor had his 60 ft. oak tree uprooted and deposited on his house, crashing through his living room. His home is a total loss and will be rebuilt. Branches and debris were everywhere. Thankfully, no one was injured. And, thankfully, the tower survived. Your hexbeam – absolutely no damage. Astonishing!! Not even the SWR was affected!! The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado with 110 mph winds.
I am happy to report that your antenna is as advertised! I will attest that it can withstand 110 mph winds! Just like my daddy taught me, "You get what you pay for!" In the long run, quality is cheaper! Your product saved me from buying another antenna. Thank you for a quality product!
